Hello there, my name is Laura Nankee. I am the Lead Teacher in Room 9. I started working at here in the Fall of 2016. While I was completing my Master’s Degree at Madonna University, my professor took our class on a tour of St. Mary Child Care Center. I was so impressed with what I saw. So when the opportunity came for me to teach here, I jumped at it!
My first experience teaching was working as a High School helper in the Kiddie Kampus Preschool at Plymouth-Canton High School. I started out at Schoolcraft College to earn my Associates in the Arts and later transferred to Eastern Michigan University where I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education for the Hearing Impaired and Elementary Education. I recently completed my Masters in Arts for Teaching in Early Childhood Education at Madonna University.I have worked in many different classrooms. Some memorable experiences I have had were teaching a class of eight 4th and 5th grade boys in a hearing impaired classroom, potty training and leading a classroom of 2 ½ to 3 year olds, and most recently working as the lead teacher at a Montessori School.
I come from a very close family. My dad has worked as an engineer and my mom was a homemaker who writes poetry. I am the oldest of 3. My sister and I are only 19 months apart and she recently gave birth to my nephew Robbie, whom I love very much. I also have a brother who is 7 years younger than me. I enjoy reading, writing my own stories, knitting, cross-stitch, painting and keeping active. Working with young children is my passion, and I love creating activities and experiences for them to teach about our world. I feel very blessed to be able to have a career that I love.
